Nalanda University is one of the oldest and most prominent educational centers of Indian education. also known as Nalanda International University. It is an international and research-intensive class located in the historical city of Vihar, India. Nalanda University was an important center of learning in ancient India that functioned prominently as an institution between the 5th and 13th centuries. And after some time, Nalanda University began turning into ruins. And the idea of reviving Nalanda University was endorsed at the East Asia Summit in 2007. And on 1 September 2014, Nalanda University began its first academic session.
The first Chancellor of the university was Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, followed by former Foreign Minister of Singapore George Yeo. Nalanda is exclusively a graduate school, currently offering only Master’s courses, with PhD programs being introduced in gradual phases from 2020.
Takshila University, situated in Rawalpindi district of Punjab province of Pakistan, is one of the most famous educational institutions of ancient times. According to researchers, Takshashila University is believed to have been established about 2700 years ago. And in this university, along with Indian students, more than 10,000 students from China, Babylon, Syria and Greece studied.
Takshila University was particularly famous for science, medicine and the arts, but both religious and secular subjects were also taught here. And even for the study of subjects like archery and astrology, students from different parts of India came to study there. Were coming.
Taxila University’s role as a center of knowledge continued under the Maurya Empire and Greek rule (Indo-Greeks) until the 2nd and 3rd centuries BCE. But the destruction of Torman in the 5th century AD put an end to the activities of the university.
Vikramshila University Bihar
Vikramshila University, built during the reign of King Dharma Pal of Pala dynasty, was the second most prominent educational center after Nalanda University. Which is presently located in Bhagalpur city of Bihar. Vikramashila University was one of the largest Buddhist universities in ancient India and was also a major center of Buddhism in the Indian subcontinent. And this university was known for the study of Buddhism, scriptures and Vedas. According to historians, Vikramshila University functioned as a major educational center of India from the 8th century to the end of the 12th century.
Pushpagiri University Odisha
Pushpagiri University, located in Jajpur district of Odisha, was established in the 3rd century by the Kalinga kings. And it was one of the most ancient universities of India after Nalanda, Tashkshila and Vikramshila University. Which served as a university till the 11th century. Pushpagiri University is also now converted into ruins of an important Buddhist site like ancient Buddhist stupa, ancient Mahavihara.
Ratnagiri University, Odisha
Ratnagiri University is an important Buddhist tourist destination along with other Buddhist sites located in the Lalitgiri and Udayagiri region. It was an important site of pilgrimage and is a major stronghold of Buddhism in Odisha, Bengal and North-East India. Udayagiri and Lalitgiri are two major Buddhist complexes in the state of Odisha. Puspagiri University is a part of what is known as the Diamond Triangle of Odisha. Excavations carried out by the Archaeological Survey of India reveal that it was a large Buddhist complex. Which contained statues of Buddha, stone wells and several terracotta temples.
Vallabhi University Gujarat
Vallabhi University was an important center of Buddhist education, located in the Bhavnagar district of Gujarat. Along with Buddhist education, this university was also famous for the education of secular subjects. This was the reason that students from all over the world used to come to Vallabhi University to get education. And this university had achieved fame in the field of education for about 600 years mainly from the 6th century to the 12th century. And it was also considered the rival of the ancient university of Nalanda.
Udant Puri University Bihar
Udant Puri University is one of the oldest universities of India. Udant Puri University was built during the reign of Pala Bansh. According to historians, Udant Puri University functioned as an important center of education from the 8th century to the 12th century. And approximately 12000 students had received education in this university.

Sompura University, Bangladesh
Sompura University, located in the Nagaon district of Bangladesh, is one of the most important Buddhist monasteries in the Indian subcontinent. Which was the best education center imparting Buddhism in ancient times. Which was also founded by the kings of Pal dynasty. It used to host a traditional Buddhist stupa in the centre. And it was the largest among the Mahaviharas, spread over about 27 acres.
Bikrampur University, Bangladesh
Bikrampur Vihar, located in Bangladesh, was the most famous vihar of ancient India, which today is part of Munshiganj district. Bikrampur University was a major center of ancient Buddhist education during the Pura Empire.
Jagaddal University Bangladesh
Jagaddal University was predominantly a Buddhist monastery. Which is currently situated in North Bengal of Bangladesh. And the credit for its establishment also goes to the rulers of Pala dynasty, who got it constructed. Jagaddal Mahavihara is tentatively listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site and Jagaddal University is one of the five great Mahaviharas of India along with Vikramashila, Nalanda, Sompura and Odantapur.
